What to Watch: A League of Their Own, the series
Maybe there’s “no crying in baseball,” but you’re sure to shed a few tears if you watch the series follow-up to the 1992 film about the women who changed the face of baseball during World War II. Abbi Jacobson’s take on the Rockford Peaches addresses a lot of the big questions that were left out of the film. Where were the black female baseball players during this time? Were any of the women of the All-American League falling in love with each other? If you have Amazon Prime, you can watch the movie and the series back-to-back.
Where to Go: Grab a drink from a sports bra?
Don’t worry, it’s more appealing than it sounds. Owner and chef Jenny Nguyen recently realized her dream of opening a bar in Portland that focuses only on women’s sports. Believe it or not, her establishment—cleverly named “The Sports Bra”—is the first of its kind in the US. Since opening, Jenny has hand-crafted a menu of sports bar classics (like burgers and wings) but with twists that reflect her Vietnamese heritage. The Sports Bra is becoming a pillar of the community, hosting events and highlighting women in sports. If you’re in Portland this year, why not stop by to catch a game? https://www.travelportland.com/culture/the-sports-bra/
